running vista, rc1/2 on a laptop with an intel 82852/82855 chipset and display adapter seems to produce a display problem. The screen is basically shifted upward leaving a black bar at the bottom of the screen and a bit missing at the top (as in a maximised window misses a few mm of the window at the top). This was also seen with the latest version of the graphics driver under XP, using an older driver version resolved this problem but is not an option with Vista.
can anyone advise? The drivers/laptop has not inbuild screen position tool to allow adjustment. Sunday, December 10, 2006 6:46 PM.
I also have this problem on a Acer Travelmate 2350 Notebook running with this Intel Chip Set (82852/82855). I've just bought Windows Vista Business, and it doesn't run with the newest drivers for this chipset - it's horrible.
I have to use an old driver for Windows XP (from 2003) but I can't play or do any things with it what needs "higher" graphics - I can't even play DVD's. I hope you can help us to find or "create" a Vista driver for this Intel Chipset. Friday, January 26, 2007 11:10 PM. I am now sure that this problem is due to the driver as having tried the latest driver on xp and having the same problem i have found that the fix for xp. to install a previous driver version, does not work with vista.
I will keep trying all the drivers and post if i find one that works. the only other fix is to force vista to see the graphics card as a 'vga compatible adapter' but this only offers 8bit colour and no acceleration functions. Monday, January 29, 2007 2:33 AM. Yeah, I have the very same issue with an Acer Extensa 2355XC laptop. The 1024x768 option means that the bottom part of the desktop (including the taskbar) disappear below the viewable area. Hopefully a usable driver will appear shortly. Monday, January 29, 2007 8:03 PM.
Which driver versions did you try? I'm using now version 6. 14. 10. 3741 on Windows XP Professional and it works but I don't know if it will also work on Windows Vista. The newest driver from the Intel download site works neither on XP nor on Vista.
I hope we will solve this problem. Thursday, February 01, 2007 2:25 PM. I am having this problem. I have a Acer TravelMate 2350. The only way i can get the screen to work is to disable my graphic cards drivers which means i can not view video etc.
I have spent hours searching the internet and still not found any soluction. Wednesday, February 07, 2007 1:45 PM. Me too i have the 2350 from acer. And I face the same problem as you since i installed vista. I tried to install the acer "standard" XP driver (uhuh), at least the portable is usable that way. (I think it works because it disabled this XP driver and fall back on some default drivers).
But now I wonder if this display issue is not related to the lcd screen synchronisation. I noticed that I am not offered to pickup 50hz 1024x768 (only 60hz 1024x768 or more, even when the "show incompatible resolution" is ticked). Do you think there is any way to trick/tweak vista drivers to accept the 50hz.
This is a pain because even if I can use the notebook that way. It is does not go in sleep as this functionality seems to be video driver related. I've got the same problem and it really sucks! I'm not sure though whether the problem is related to the graphics controller or the panel.
The graphics driver seems to be recognized properly by vista (at least I didn't get an error message) but the highest resolution I can go up to without the desktop no longer fitting on the screen is 1280x768 instead of 12800x800 (I have a widescreen panel). Obviously, this way 32 pixels are missing horizontally and while you might think 32 pixels isn't that much I can tell you that it screws up your rendering completely even making small fonts almost impossible to encouter. Does anybody else use the intel 82855 graphics card together with a widescreen panel and did anybody of you guys report this problem to Microsoft and Intel? Actually it's quite embarrassing that a device that old is not support by a brand new operating system. I wouldn't even mind the 1280x768 resolution if it cutted the desktop horizontally leaving a small blank line at the top or bottom of the screen but I haven't come across an option like this yet. Does anybody know whether this is possible on Windows Vista. If we attract enough attention from Microsoft or Intel they will fix the Intel 82855 graphics driver support eventually.
So keep on posting. Saturday, February 10, 2007 8:56 AM. hi all, having similar problems as everybody else. have a Gateway 7322GZ laptop and Vista Business. intel 82852/82855 chipset graphics drivers worked initially, but with a max resolution of 1024x768. and my laptop does 1280x800 so i installed the XP-based drivers from gateway support under XP compatibility mode. it worked, i now have my full resolution, but direct3d no longer works.
P i would much like to have some vista native drivers for the graphics card and the entire motherboard, which supports hibernate and sleep mode, e'en though vista has disabled these features due to "lack of support". just chirpin in.
Saturday, February 10, 2007 5:24 PM. Im running a gateway with the 1. 4Gig processor, 503 RAM Laptop and vista is running good with my drivers and the same video cards. It just seems to carry a lower capability. Saturday, February 10, 2007 5:42 PM. spankster, that really makes little difference as regards my problem or anybody else's.
you probably have a different monitor than me (mine is a 15. 4" widescreen with a weird native resolution--same as Mazze above) and likely not the same video card because after thorough googling i have found no one with the 82852/82855 to be running at full capacity on Vista.
it may "work" for you, but does Direct3d? if you have this video card, it ought to. Saturday, February 10, 2007 6:21 PM.
you know what, I think your right, I just tried to install and run a game for the first time since I bought vista. The game is O.
and it ran incredibly slow. whats the deal with vista, are all the hardware companies trying to boycott it or what.
Saturday, February 10, 2007 6:45 PM. whats the deal with vista, are all the hardware companies trying to boycott it or what. good question! i contacted gateway support about this problem a couple of weeks ago and basically they said, "we're not going to do anything about it, reinstall xp" grrrrr. Saturday, February 10, 2007 6:56 PM. well i think its such a shame that we have not got this sorted. still no reply from intel and i was brick walled on teh phone, the just said.
'we do not support graphics products over the phone'. Then the guy suggested another email address that did not work!. I think we may just be out of luck as intel do not plan to do another driver version :(. Saturday, February 10, 2007 11:22 PM.
I have HP Pavilion Ze2000 laptop, 1. 86 Ghz Centrino. 512 MB Ram & intel 82852/82855 - 64 MB Video Card, Actually, Windows Vista recognized the card without any errors, the display works on 32bit 1024 * 768. Its seems that Direct3D - Hardware acceleration is not working at all. When I try to run Windows Movie Maker which comes with Windows Vista I get the following message:. Windows Movie Maker cannot start because your video card does not support the required level of hardware acceleration or hardware acceleration is not avilable.
I tried to install the Win XP driver but it didn't work. Sunday, February 18, 2007 8:29 AM. I have the same problem. There is no support for direct 3d or openGL for intel 82852/82855.
INTEL graphic cards suck A**. But i request every1 to post here so that we can draw more attention to this problem. Thursday, March 15, 2007 4:31 AM. Does anyone has frequent BLUESCREENS when playing VIDEO or GAMES?. Since I installed Win Vista. I get this BLUESCREEN DAILY.
I installed a fresh clean copy again. but the problem persists.
Thursday, March 15, 2007 4:35 AM. I had the same problem, I spoke with windows vista support for a month or so.
The support line continuosly said that its not the driver and that it is the graphics card doesnt have the capability to run Vista's graphics and still be able to function as well as with XP. It sounds half way logical. Thursday, March 15, 2007 8:50 AM. I was so annoyed with the graphics that I decided to roll back to Windows XP. Lesson learned: Never again will I buy an onboard graphics card from Intel.
Their drivers support is a joke. Thursday, March 15, 2007 9:08 AM.
I'm having this issue as well. Bloody ridiculous :(. Sunday, March 18, 2007 8:51 AM.
I sold my HP Pavilion laptop because of this problem. I bought new HP Pavilion DV6000 with NVIDIA GRAPHICS CARD. && ----------> AMD PROCESSOR DUAL CORE <--------. Never will buy anything from (((( INTEL )))).

Hi guys, I'm stuck with the same graphic-chip. Actually, if you do not attend to run aero or play games it actually kind of works in a way. I run two screens at home, one 20" wide screen running a full resolution (1680x1050), and my laptop-screen running 1400x1050. You can not run a dvd in a regular dvd-player, but using vlc it works good enough.
If you have this graphic chip it is very important to disable all those fancy effects, when you do it feels like you boost up the speed of vista. But last, I really hope someone out the can write some new drivers for this chip, because there are A LOT OF people out there with it, and the native driver included in vista is not that good at all.
Friday, April 13, 2007 9:15 AM. The following method got direct 3d to work for me. Still no aero but movies will playback with hardware acceleration. 1. Remove all previous installtions of hardware (just keep vistas std vga). 2.
DLD the latest drivers from intel and extract to hardrive. 3. in device manager go to Action - Add legacy hardware. 4. Select device manually.
(If the 82852/82855 GM/GME doesnt show in the list of display drivers, then you need to point to the directory where you extracted the drivers) 5. THIS IS THE IMPOTANT STEP. Dont select 82852/82855 GM/GME from the list of drivers, select the 945GM driver. It will install and you will need to reboot. You should now have a fully functional 82852/82855 GM/GME display adapter. I do, I hope this works for you too.
Saturday, April 14, 2007 1:41 AM. with this method it works to you. Saturday, April 14, 2007 10:31 PM. Yes it worked for me on an aging Acer Extensa 2300. Windows update will try to dld a new driver for the 945 chipset.
If you allow this, your device will stop working. Sunday, April 15, 2007 2:57 AM. Thanks for your instructions!. It works for me, too. But I still can't use OpenGL with Vista. Do you have another trick for that problem.
Sunday, April 15, 2007 7:33 AM. It doesnt work for me.
every time i remove the current drivers vista installs them again. I have acer 2350. Sunday, April 15, 2007 6:43 PM. Hi Stuart, Sorry to hear it didnt work for you.
Try to cancel the wizard that installs the driver and when prompted choose the option that says something like "dont ask me again about this device". Then you should be able to do the manual install described earlier. Another option might be to try to remove all instances of the driver at the time of device uninstallation.
The OS wont be able to install the device if there are no drivers. Hope you get it working soon. Monday, April 16, 2007 12:16 AM.
DirectX Hardware method on page two didn't work for me with Vista RC1. Installed Ultimate full product last week.
I haven't tried the method described previously with the full product but will try again in the next few days. In the meantime I'd like to add my name to the list of those somewhat annoyed by Intel's attitude to this. Monday, June 04, 2007 11:13 AM. is there a way to just replace this stupid chip with something better. Monday, June 04, 2007 12:03 PM. I also experienced the same issues with the chipset, currently running vista on a gateway and have already used the method posted, only issue is when restarted i get BLUE screens but still ask windows to continue till i get lucky.
Intel Sucks. Monday, June 18, 2007 6:57 PM. Intel 82852/82855 chipset on Dell x300 laptop does not allow me to display 1680*1050 resolution on an external LCD Acer montor (connected through VGA). The display properties window does not show 1680*1050 option even when " do not show unsupported options" is untagged. The external monitor only shows selected options including 1600*1200 which streaches the display disproportionately. I know that the card can display the right resolution as originally it worked ok - just before I installed a webcam. (Ofcourse uninstalling the webcam did not help).
I have the newest Acer monitor driver and the newest Intel Extreme Graphics 2 for moblie installed. I also have the newest BIOS. It took me hours of trying to configure it by without results. I have tried PowerStrip to configure the display options but it did not work.
It seems that the chipset does not read EDID information from the external Acer Monitor. I have Windows XP Professional, but may be someone could please help me here, as it seems to be the only forum where this problem is really discussed. Any help is welcome.
Saturday, June 23, 2007 5:47 PM. Same damn problem as Paul. In my device manager under Display adapters I have two Graphics COntrollers with identical ID's after I installed my XP driver:. Intel(R) 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller (Microsoft Corporation - XDDM.
If I work with the xp driver I have max resolution (1280X800) but no Hardwarde Acc for movies. If I flip to the Vista Driver I have 1024X768 max resolution and Hardware Acceleration. It's freackin annoying.
When will they come up with the driver. Friday, June 29, 2007 1:49 PM. I have an acer travelmate 2050 and I disabled the update drivers wizard, and manually installed the windows 2000 drivers. Thia gives a satisfactory display of 1024 X 768. Sunday, July 01, 2007 4:44 PM.
Has someone come up with a solution already. i disabled the wizard driver update on my travelmate 2350 abd tried everypossible driver in the list (also 945GM) but after every restart the driver has been shut down because of compatibility problems. This leaves me with the windows standard vga driver which by the way gives the proper resolution, so my 1024x 768 screen is good! only my videos dont work as they should. in fullscreen it doesnt run smooth and the graphics are crappier. Please give me a solution. Sunday, September 30, 2007 8:58 AM.
Hi All,I believe that we should all contact Intel regarding this issue. If enough people raise the problem and copy intel in on this post as i have them may decide to act. I have been unable to get anything from them, but some one else may be more lucky - Indeed it may be worth contacting MS and trying the same. Tuesday, October 02, 2007 3:29 PM.
I have this problem too. I can't get any DVDs to play. I tried to use the 945 dirver but it wouldn't work. I have a gateway mx6025 laptop. Seeing the post a few pages back from intel makes me think I wasted my money on vista. I know MS won't give me a refund. /shrug.
this install cd makes quite an expensive drink coaster. Wednesday, October 03, 2007 7:55 PM. i am having problems with my driver i want to use it with out restarting. Friday, October 26, 2007 5:25 AM. try here or on the dowloads site.
i noticed a patch for the intel chipsets. Monday, October 29, 2007 7:39 AM. I have a new HP Pavilion dv6449 notebook. (nVidia GeForce Go 6150 with shared graphics memory).
With certain games, it freezes, Sometimes I have to turn my computer off and re-start. I believe I've had more trouble with downloading than I should have. Someone said that the UAC interferes with the games and they've shut it off. Most of these games require a Direct X 9. X or higher sound/video card driver.
I'm not sure what the man on the other thread meant when he talks about his blue screen, but the color's popular at HP. He can do a lot with the control panel to change his display. When I check my computer performance, I get loads of errors, and a lot of adaptors flag and it wants a driver bad, but I can't seem to download it from HP. The HP techs said that I'll have to store all my info and go back to factory settings, that should take care of the problem.
All the downloads for Vista, messed me up. Friday, November 30, 2007 2:48 AM. The following method got direct 3d to work for me.
Still no aero but movies will playback with hardware acceleration. 1. Remove all previous installtions of hardware (just keep vistas std vga). 2. DLD the latest drivers from intel and extract to hardrive. 3.

You should now have a fully functional 82852/82855 GM/GME display adapter. I do, I hope this works for you too. it DOES surprisingly work in windows 2008 enterprise. thank you for your information.
after reboot i got 3 drivers listed in vga adapter. 2 for 82855 and 1 for 945gm which is not working correctly and i disabled it later. in display mode, i can configure 1024x768 (32 bit) with no problem. i can watch a dvd without crappy flicker like before.
in adapter properties dialog, it wrote Intel(R) 82852/82855 GM/GME Controller with 64 mb memory. the driver i installed was downloaded from here. after clicking "have disk" it listed both 945g and also 82855, i selected 945g express by your instruction.
now im curious of what would happened if i selected 82855. -). Wednesday, March 05, 2008 11:15 AM. This is really annoying. I don't seem to have a problem anywhere near as major as yours thank god (yay! I'm lucky for once!) Anyway, I can watch DVD's, even use windows media center without any error or problem! The only thing I can't use, obviously, is Windows DVD Maker (which is a real shame as I use that a lot). My real problem which is really big to me is the resolution. I normally use 1024X768 but when I set it to this the screen goes out of the visable area.
When I use 800X600 I am fine, although me eye's definately aren't! I will put up with it if I have to, but I'd rather not. I'll be onto intel first thing in the morning. I'm using the Acer TravelMate 2350.
(512 MB ram, 1. 40 Ghz). Sunday, July 19, 2009 7:24 PM. I own a Acer Travelmate 291LCi with that same chipset. Yesterday, I got it to work (it seems) with Windows7 with D3D support, sleep/hibernate asf. The file I needed for this I cannot locate on the Internet, at the moment (will try, try, try.
& post here when found). It seemed to be 2003 Windows 2000 driver, more or less at the reference design stage (in a. RAR file on some forum).
Needs 7-ZIP to unpack (sourceforge). This driver contains a number of. inf files, of which the ialmnt5.
inf (or so) contains the necessary info. When W7 starts, press F8 and choose option "run without driver signature checking".
It's available under the W7 RC (build 7100) and has a slightly different name in the German version I'm using. The point seems to be that W7 showed 2 entries of the 82852/855 driver, too. They flagged the code 43 error but I could eliminate it by doing a search for new hardware or disable one copy, then update the other one going to the same directory's PARENT folder, again. Note that it won't display the selection of. inf files again that it did the first time around.
Instead, a number of additional devices will be reported, one of which is graphics system SoftBIOS. This will allow W7 to talk to the hardware (via BIOS) and complete the configuration. After that, error 43 is gone, memory mappings are shown in the driver 'resources' panel and the display will now read 'Digital Flat Panel 1024x768'. Apparently, the graphics card now talks to the display via DDC2, enables 32-bit color depth as well as all the power saving functions. Now the NB power supply feels much cooler and Media Player shows.
MPG files allright. Haven't tried MPEG-2, but should work, also. Sorry for not being more specific, but I'll check back when I've located the driver I mentioned above. BTW, W7 RC works OK on my Banias NB (1. 4 GHz) with just 512 MB of RAM.
I make one caveat: I have also installed many different chipset. inf files before that, one of which is the GART driver (read about it in the AGP spec/wikipedia) that came with the NB (from the install CD) - perhaps this was necessary, too. will post again (be patient, please). Friday, September 18, 2009 3:30 PM. Hey everyone, I found this post on a forum for Win7 and has worked very well for me. Please follow the instructions posted by "Frustrated" to the letter.
Please post back your results. Saturday, November 07, 2009 2:21 PM. Microsoft is conducting an online survey to understand your opinion of the Technet Web site.
